All AFEPI Ireland members go through a rigorous vetting process when they first apply to join. Our Membership Committee assesses each application carefully, looking for evidence of high-quality training and/or editorial experience of some kind, backed up by references from satisfied clients or previous employers.

Levels of membership

We have three levels of membership: Associate, Full and Retired Member.

Associate membership is offered to those who are relatively new to editing, proofreading and/or indexing, or who have limited training and/or experience. Associates are encouraged to upgrade to become Full Members once they have gained further training and experience.

Full membership is offered to trained, experienced editors, proofreaders and indexers living and working in Ireland. Many of our Full Members have worked in-house for Irish, UK and US publishers, while others come from academic backgrounds or have worked in an editorial capacity outside of the publishing industry.

Retired membership is offered to members who have scaled down their work or stopped completely but who want to keep links with the organisation.
